Shift Knob Updates
« on: January 24, 2011, 08:26:01 AM »
Monday 1/24/11
Bad news guys, I spoke again with the OEM supplier last week who built our shift knobs with the porcelin emblem on top. The family owned business after reorganizing after the founding father died last year has decided to discontinue producing the knobs with emblems. They notified me and thier european OEM customers of this decision. It is a business decision based on being able to create profits from the enveavor, they expressed to me that because of the high rejection rate it is too hard to project pricing/profits. I inquired about buying their tooling for the process & that went nowhere. I will keep my eyes & ears open to alternative methods/options...RonT

Thanks for looking out for us Ron. Good to know where we stand anyway.

Brand new around here...

Quick question... did all the Am Ski's have this specific emblem topped knobs? Have a '79 that I thought our family had since new. Don't ever remember anything but the solid wood knob still on there. Did it likely have one of the emblemed knobs at one time?

I think (no expert) it was an option? As usual Ron knows best

I don't think the '77 has one either.

yes it was an option, but many were installed as a promotional item, especially if a boat was going into a boat show. I don't know exactly when it came about but our '79 had one.

Well good for you guys!!!   By the time 1990 came around they were using just "plain ole black plastic"    >:(

Fortunately, I got a wooden one from Ron...   Still hoping, praying, dreaming, etc, of a throttle knob with the AM Skier insert....  too cool    8)

If someone brings one to the 2013 Reunion, I'd be interested in seeing if I could make copies.
